300+ Mouse Names: Cute & Funny Names Inspired by Famous Disney Characters, Cartoon Movies, Books…

Funny, cute and famous mouse names

You’ve decided that mice are the right pets for you, and you’ve set up a great cage to bring them home to. Now comes one of the trickiest decisions in a pet owner’s career – choosing the right names!

I’m terrible for this – I have synesthesia (a perceptual phenomenon in which one sense mingles with another), so I not only have to find a name that suits the animal’s personality, but also one where the colour of the name doesn’t clash with the colour tone of the animal. I struggled for so long finding a name for one boy, my Mum called him Nemo (latin for “No name”).

Famous mouse names

I take most of my pet names from fiction, often not even from animals – most of the current horde are named after characters from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. If you don’t mind naming your mice after humans, then your favourite books and shows are ideal sources of inspiration. However, if you want to use famous mouse names, then the world of literature, cartoons and movies conjours up excellent ideas, and we’ve picked out some of the best mousey options for you right here.

Other name inspirations

Mouse names from cartoons, movies, Disney

Of course, you might not want to name your mice after someone else’s character, and you don’t have to use human-style names at all. Other sources I’ve drawn on for name ideas are sweets and cakes, and fruits and nuts (as well as fossils – the vet never did come to terms with the rat I named Zinjanthropus). Here are some more ideas – most of these are unisex.

Of course, the only restriction on naming your mouse is your imagination. And don’t let species stand in your way – I once called a rat “Mousey”, so naming a mouse “Ratty”, or “Squirrel” or “Badger” or anything else that takes your fancy is fine!

  1. I am breeding my male and female. Nice to have some baby names. I am being careful and wont breed her more than once. I only want 1 litter of babies

  2. Love the list! Seems like you’ve done a lot of research. I especially love that you added Algernon from Flowers for Algernon in. I’m just a very Science Fiction-y person, (who happens to love mice) so I love that book and I named my mouse, Algernon, after him. The last line in the book “If you get a chance, please put some flowers on Algernon’s grave in the back yard.” actually made me cry. Mice are AWESOME! They are my favorite animals:)!!!
