700+ Pet Rat Names: Famous & Disney Rats, Pair Names, Black & White Rat Names

Pet Rat Names; Disney, famous rats, rat pair names, white and black rat names

You’ve decided that rats are the right pets for you, and you’ve got everything set up to make them a great home. Now comes one of the trickiest decisions in a pet owner’s career – choosing the right names!

I’ve named over 70 rats in my time, ranging through flowers, sweets, characters from children’s books and tv, norse gods, and most recently characters from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. I also once called a rat Zinjanthropus after a famous hominid fossil. My vet renamed her Zing on the records!

      1. I have a black and white ray and a buttery and white rat so I picked dusk and dawn

      1. Rizzo from the Muppets is funny! Or master splinter! Or if you want to go crazy you could try Ratthue McConaughey! #alright_alright_alright

      1. I called my rat Eclair which sounds posh and classy but only found this website when looking for names for my friend’s rat. I love the name Beans and i hope to name my next rat with the name.

      2. I named my new female rat Paint, most people don’t like the name but I think it’s unique and I love it :’)

  1. I think “Scamper” is a perfect rat name. I’m 53 and work at a pet store, and just got my first pet rat. She is AMAZING and while she stays very close to me (she quickly bonded) I think when she gains confidence she will be scampering around. So Scamper she is. Beans will be my next rat because I am so smitten! Oh no, there’s another name, LOL.

    1. You shouldn’t EVER keep just one rat. They are very social, pack animals and no matter how much attention you give her/him it could never replace having a rat companion. I have 2 rats named Magick and Wolfie. I’ve adopted another rat that was abandoned in a recycling bin with 50+ more rats in the woods. He’s coming home next Thursday. His name is Quest but I may change it. I like Percy, (short for persevere also French name meaning “one who conquered your heart.”) Phoenix, and Banjo.

  2. Nice, I personally like it, but still don’t know what to name my two boys, one is black and one is blue! Only Young five-six weeks old.

  3. Hi my names ella and my rats called ratatatat I believe this is the perfect name for my little boy because when he walks he tats tats tats, I’m also getting another rat and I’m thinking of some names for example tuna and sweet corn? Please can you help Thankyou for this wonderful Page!!!!

  4. Hey I’m gonna get some rats soon and I wrote I list of name ideas maybe you could add them to your list some of them such as Eggo Levi Lady Omelette Meatball and Cream-Soda

  5. Hey Anyone, I’m trying to come up with a clever, funny first and last name for a mouse who’s anonymous but its occupation is like a therapist, witty dry-humored advice giver type. Sort of like a ‘Dear Abby’ character who is very comical and quick-witted. I need the the first and last names to pass as plausible real names but clever too. It can take on a French, Scottish or English flair…whatever name combos are the funniest. I’m not looking for cutesy names though. I’m needing names that make you laugh right off the bat…antonyms and synonyms playing off each other (but please…only clean names, nothing dirty) I’ve been racking my brain and Facebook keeps rejecting my names. I don’t want to use my real name in creating a new Facebook account. I want a fictitious name that’ll fly past their radar and believable enough that it sticks. I just want a separate FB account strictly meant for this anonymous mouse who has its own little nook, mailbox outside its hole who peeks out long enough to say something clever and witty to crack people up.

If anyone can help I’d appreciate it. I tried some but they didn’t fly. Funny names rhyming with mouse and things like that. If you can think of some real funny names (first and last names) ya know…a play on words…basically clever, funny, hilarious and believable I’m hoping for.

Thanks man if you can assist me on this!

    1. Oh my, you’re very specific when it comes to naming your mouse 😀 Nothing very good comes to my mind, unfortunately. Maybe name him after some well-known psychiatrist like Sigmund Freud, Dr. Phil…? Maybe this list will be of better help to you, although it mostly contains cutesy names, but you might find something close to what you’re looking for too: https://www.animallama.com/mice/mouse-names/ . Good luck with finding the right name (and last name) 🙂

  6. these names for girls Aspen,Autumm,Iris,Ivy,Rain,Raven,River,Willow,Bliss,Joy and for boy names Birch,Eco,Flint,Storm,Ace,Loki,Sushi,Wasabi

  7. I just got my first pet rats!!! (x3) I named the great female Dove and my other pair of almost identical females kit and kat. It’s my favorite candy bar. 🙂
Thanks for all the names to choose from! :))

  8. For my future rats (AKA in the summer) I’m going to name them Remy and Reggie. I already saw Remy but I think that you should add Reggie to the Unisex one.

  9. I have three rats and their names are Lupin Fraser and the third has no name yet I’m torn between jackdaw nightshade and kojak. I think you should add kojak lupin and Fraser to your male names. 15. My ones names are
Girls: Mills, Monki, Honi, Mai, Pie, Remi, Gray, Posi
    Boys: Pedro, Rudy

  16. I just got a pair of male rats and never have i had issues naming pets before but these two had me stumped. With some ideas from this list i decided to go with Jupiter and Pluto. I love mythology, and these are the counter parts to greek gods Zeus and Hades (my first rat, my heart rat, was named Hades and i had a hamster named Zeus before). I LOVE the idea of the name having a double meaning (planets and gods) and the fact that its a pair of names with double meanings has me delighted haha. I did struggle between Jupiter or Neptune (Poseidon is my fav greek god) but Jupiter won out in the end (i like the sound of it a bit more)

In the past i have had male and female rats, their names were; (Males) Hades, Rex, Winter, Sherlock, Watson. (Females) Kayo, Mercy, Midna, Zelda

Other names i have used for small animals: (Males) Jack, Kapp’n’, Kicks, Hunter, Mr. Man, Zeus, Chip, Johnny, Castle, Brindle, Shaggy, Gandalf, Houdini, Widget, Lucifer (Luci for short), Spike. (Females) Lily, Tiger, Oasis, Mable, Sable, Sugar, Silk, Hope, Martini, Little Foot, Bandit, Roxi, Nibbles

  17. I don’t know what to name mine bc he has a whit body black head and 3 black spots in a row on his back

  18. We have 3, a full white female (ghost), a half dark brown/half white female (chocolate), and a dark brown female (splinter). If my son hadn’t named chocolate or my husband with splinter, I would have kept the Game of thrones theme and gone with Sansa or Arya or even Cersi 🙂

  19. My rats name was Ratatouille. He was ivory color with red eyes an dark brown patches on his face and body

  20. You had Finn and Poe, but left out Finn and Jake (Adventure Time). I had a pair of brothers named that.

Also, my current mischief has three boys, one is a ginger so I named him Reed (after the ginger ale). His brothers are [Dr.] Pepper (charcoal hooded) and Merlot (agouti hooded, almost dark red.)
